Giveaways, Contests and Sweeps: How to know they are legit, and how to know if a winning letter is real.
Part Two
But then, I started seeing tons of these small blog giveaways on the many book blogs I read. They would do rafflecopters which are great but extremely time consuming. The gist is, they give you a list of easy tasks that involve them and the author(s) involved – mostly friending, adding, liking, pinning, shelfing, etc. Each task gives you x amount of extra entries. So yes you can stop at the one easy one and be on your way – or you can hang out for a few minutes and get 50 or more entries for doing all the little social media PR tasks for them. Why not, the authors I was reading were getting more PR which I supported. Most of these giveaways were little things like free books, ebooks, small Amazon Gift certificates. And because blogs are so interconnected they would do these things called “blogrolls” so 50 blogs would get together and all have giveaways at the same time and promote each others so you just keep hitting “next” to go to the next blog’s similar giveaway.
Oh yes I was hooked. I was flying through these. Within a day or so I already belonged to all of their blogs so doing all the “extra” tasks were cake because they were already done so it was instant extra entries. And within a week, I won. It was a small win, I got an ebook and a knitted item by an author I actually read. I think I was more stoked over the knitted item – and the private email correspondence me and the author went back and forth on afterwards. This was the BEST.
